I think it turned out pretty damn good!
They also touched up the billions of paint chips on my hood.
Hnnnnnng this car was worth the wait.

That looks great. Congrats on getting that fixed up!

Looks good. What did you end up doing?

YOU HAVE A SPERTKRASS?

Went to the body shop I’ve been using for a decade and had them do the full removal and sand down, etc. In other words, I paid up.

Do you mind if I ask how reasonable the small chip repair was?
$ $$ $$$ $$$$
I have some touch up spots on the cruiser I would rather have done right (i.e. not by me) and I haven’t looked into cost yet.

Worth it to get it done right by people you trust.

Hey, it’s been maybe a few days since I posted about It!
Trying to not wear out oppo on this one. On the other hand, I’ve only had it for a short time but have already gone through many new experiences. I feel I care about them enough to share.

Looks great!
That’s an evil color to match, looks like they nailed it.
![]() 08/25/2017 at 18:01 |

They just did it for free, so I couldn’t say for going in for *just* The chips.
I asked about right when I dropped it off, and he’s like, “Ahhh, I’ll do it myself, don’t worry.”

Looking goooood.

I have at least 5 spots that need more than a little ship repair...but I so don’t want to pay for them. sigh. I will have to check into it before winter though on account of the salt part of salt lake.

If I told you how much the bumper cost you’d take the Lord’s name in vain.

I have three or four itty bitty rust bubbles on the rear hatch. Going to sand them out and blob on some OEM touch-up paint.
![]() 08/25/2017 at 18:06 |

careful with that route, thats what I’ve been doing and it does not last if there are underlying issues. even with touchup primer.

I have no doubts, just be glad its not pearl or metallic
![]() 08/25/2017 at 18:09 |

But it IS pearl metallic.

what was wrong with it before?
![]() 08/25/2017 at 18:15 |

Not sure. I’ve got some house projects that are going to start eating up my weekends. I’ve been putting them off all summer but I need to get moving before the weather turns to shit. Looks like fun though.

ah...then yes, that explains it. My condolences.

I’m too jealous but glad you have such a unicorn in pearl white no less. Don’t give this one up! How does the 2JZ do for fuel economy and exhaust note?

I’m work that day so I’m out. But hit me up for a beer sometime.

Must be a good body shop ... they’re hard to find.

Shoddy paint job on a replacement bumper. Had two small chips when I bought it then this happened.
![]() 08/25/2017 at 18:23 |

Plus you it shows every spec of dirt. But it looks sooooo good when it’s clean.
![]() 08/25/2017 at 18:30 |
|
But seriously it looks great!
![]() 08/25/2017 at 18:33 |

Fuel economy is dreadful. Cookie Monster sent me a link for a cool air intake that he swears by, so I’ll be getting that.
Exhaust note is great (coming from a Tercel, here), but it is auto so it doesn’t get tested.

yup, this is the color of my wifes gx
![]() 08/25/2017 at 18:38 |

Nice. Pearl white is probably the best color for these, then a light blue (if it exists).

Damn, that looks great! Is a manual trans swap into one of these plug and play? Seems like a great car.

I, for one, really enjoy these updates. I’ve always really liked these cars so I definitely don’t mind reading about it, and it’s nice to get a different take on them. Any plans to modify it? I think I already told you about the guy I know who fully built a 1JZ is300 and it got totaled within weeks.
![]() 08/25/2017 at 22:32 |

Just a different intake a maybe some tinted windows. This is probably the only IS on the planet left with untinted glass. And a Lexus badge on the back.
![]() 08/25/2017 at 22:36 |
|
I’m a big fan of tints. Never liked the fact that people can 100% see straight into my car. As long as you light enough to where it doesn’t impede vision, tint is great. I think 35% is the sweet spot. Looks good, does a great job keeping it cool inside, and doesn’t lessen visibility.

i like the look without a badge. not like an IS rear will ever be too plain.
